Christmas is an occasion to gather a large family, inviting even the most distant relatives. In addition to salads and hot dishes, traditional for any Russian holiday, we offer you to cook original Russian Christmas dishes that will delight all members of your family, including the smallest.

Christmas cookies

Dough:

  • 100 g honey, 100 g sugar
  • 75 g butter, vanillin
  • 380 g flour, 2 eggs
  • 3 drops of almond oil

Glaze

  • 250 g icing sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk
  • food colors, sugar balls

Cooking method

Dip honey, sugar and butter in a large saucepan, heat and stir well until sugar dissolves. Then let cool. Mix flour with vanilla sugar, add to the cooled mass and knead well. Add eggs and almond butter and knead the dough again. Wrap the finished dough in plastic wrap and put in the refrigerator for 1 hour.

Heat the oven to 175 ° C. Place baking paper on a baking sheet. Roll out the dough into a layer approximately 7 mm thick. Cut 7-8 cm circles out of the layer, put them on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes.

Dilute the powdered sugar with warm milk, add food coloring. Brush the cooled cookies with icing and decorate with sugar balls.

Christmas sochivo

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp. whole wheat
  • 100 g poppy seeds
  • 100 g walnuts
  • 1-3 st. l. honey
  • sugar to taste

Cooking method

Rinse and soak the wheat overnight in plenty of water. In the morning, cook viscous wheat porridge and mash the poppy seeds for poppy milk. To keep the wheat soft, cook it over very low heat for several hours. Mix the cooked porridge, poppy milk, honey and add crushed walnuts. The juice should be liquid, it is traditionally served in clay bowls and eaten with a spoon.

Christmas uzvar

  • Water – 3 l
  • Dried apples, pears, apricots, plums – 100 g each
  • Raisins – 50 g
  • Sugar – 0.5 cups
  • Honey – 0.5 cups

Cooking method

Cook apples and pears for 15 minutes, then add plums (pitted) and apricots, cook for another 10 minutes. Put the raisins and boil for 5 minutes with the rest of the fruit. We filter the Uzvar. Put honey and sugar in the strained broth, mix. Fill dried fruits with sweet broth, bring to a boil. We pay attention to the sugar and honey dissolve. We set the uzvar from the stove to a cold place for 6 hours so that it is infused.
