Stretching from west to east, the Ziminogorsk region covers plains, taiga, and mountains. The Kolyvan ridge lies in the heart of the district. The climate is continental with a lot of precipitation. The territory of the region is unique for its natural diversity. In the eastern part of the Zmeinogorsk region, there is the Tigirek reserve, created in 1999. It was created specifically to preserve the unique nature of this part of Altai. The landscapes in the reserve are mainly mid-mountain and low-mountain. The flora of the reserve is especially diverse, many rare species of grasses, shrubs and trees grow there: fireweed, spinous osmoriza, broadleaf bellflower, hops, bergenia, willow bush, curly lilies.
